States that don`t have these kinds of laws can give police or animal controllers the power to break windows without being punished, but many still require the animal rescuer — both police and civilians — to pay for any damage to the vehicle. What sheer ignorance I have seen in this thread. Lord. When the air conditioning is on, your dog is fine. Period. End of story. The story of a lady about the police dog who died while the air was on, IT WAS A CAR PROBLEM. A faulty air conditioner or malfunction was not everyone`s fault and was simply a tragic accident. I also say that if my windows are half down and I park in the shade, my dogs are perfectly fine. I have 3 dogs and their age is 8, 9 and 3 years.
I`ve had them all since I was born. So I know very well what I am talking about. After all, I`d love to see someone put their hand in my vehicle window – or break my window – trying to « save my dogs. Really, I would. Because they will soon discover how far away they really are from death and would be INCREDIBLY happy to walk away with their hand if they reached inside. But what if they broke the window? I can guarantee that the possibility of them leaving is slim. They would be torn from limb to limb because my dogs are trained to protect me, my family and our belongings, which certainly includes the car lol. So, before you decide to be an ignorant-vigilant, stop and think about it.
Panting does not mean that a dog dies. They also gasp when they are excited, nervous or just random! But even if it`s because of the heat, what if wheezing is all they do? This is not a crisis situation, guys. You would undoubtedly know if a dog suffers from heat exhaustion! Unfortunately, I saw my pet rabbit pass by when I was 7 years old when my mom forgot he was in her outdoor park for an hour. I will never forget what those symptoms looked like, it was scarred and it would even be now as an adult if I saw another animal go through what Thumper did. (Original, I know. lol) All I`m saying is that people need to calm the down. Stop treating a dog in a car in the summer as if the sky were falling. When the windows are down, move away. When the air is on, move away. If you think you MUST say something, wait for the owner at his car and talk to him respectfully like a normal person. They are not Satan because their idea of protecting and caring for their best friend does not meet your personal expectations.
