We use a needle for all our piercings, not a gun. All our devices are either single-use or sterilized. Although Health Canada provides guidelines to prevent the spread of infection, the federal government does not set a legal age for piercings. In Quebec, it is not illegal for minors to have pierced or tattooed. A « minor » is a person under the age of 18. There are no specific laws covering piercing and tattoo parlors when it comes to safety, employee training, and cleanliness, so you need to be informed and careful. Under 5 years – we do not offer piercing services for this age group. If the parent has a different surname and address than the minor, legal documents (birth certificate, marriage certificate, divorce documents, adoption documents, etc.) must be provided to verify the relationship. Persons under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent/guardian and must identify themselves and prove their age and relationship to the guardian in order to be pierced or have jewelry inserted into a piercing. Acceptable identification and proof of age and relationship include: Toronto public health officials say Toronto has no legal age limit for piercings, but most store owners in the city will not perform piercings on teens under the age of 16 without parental consent. According to the Ontario Ministry of Health`s best practice guidelines, piercers must retain their clients` names, contact information and description of the procedure for at least five years. Clients should also receive verbal and written information on how to maintain an ear or body piercing. This policy document does not specify age requirements.
The law protects young teenagers and further restricts their choices. After all, getting pierced or getting tattooed is an important decision. 5 to 11 years – earlobe piercings only. Parental consent required. For minors under the age of 14, some judges and lawyers believe that the law does not require parental permission for certain types of piercings, such as piercing a navel or ear. However, a tongue piercing or tattoo would require permission. Other judges and lawyers believe that authorization is required in all situations. There is no law in British Columbia that says how old you have to be to get tattoos or piercings.
The Ministry of Health recommends that studios obtain parental consent before working on someone under the age of 19. Some studios have their own rules. For example, some studios don`t give tattoos or piercings to teens under the age of 17 without written permission from their parents. Most reputable piercing stores in Canada will educate customers about the risks and how to care for a piercing, ask for a signed consent form and ask for identification, said John Zukowski, owner of Pacific Body Jewellery in Prince George, B.C., who has been in the industry for nearly 17 years. His company refuses to perform « exotic piercings » or genital and nipple piercings on people under 19, and only allows ear piercings for teenagers 16 and older without parental consent. Young children and teens who want more piercings must have parental consent. But that doesn`t mean a salon gives a minor a piercing or tattoo. Salons are allowed to have their own policies on how they treat minors.

But even with the consent of the parents, Mr. Zukowski is strongly opposed to ear piercing on babies. In British Columbia, for example, provincial recommendations on ear and body piercing require parental consent for minors under the age of 19. Similar to Alberta`s guidelines, the B.C. Ministry of Health states that « operators should ensure that clients perform the procedure voluntarily and not as a result of a gamble or business, that they are not under the influence of alcohol or other judgment-modifying drugs, and that they are aware that the piercing poses health risks. » Any of the above forms of acceptable identification of parents and minors when surnames or addresses match. All guests who appear to be minors will be asked for a genuine ID card such as passports, driver`s licenses, ID cards and Garda age cards. Please do not consume alcohol before your appointment. Piercers reserves the right to refuse service to drunk customers. * ID = government-issued physical ID, e.g.
passport, driver`s license, age card. School cards are NOT accepted. You can see that the law is not always clear! For teenagers between the ages of 14 and 17, most judges and lawyers believe that you can make this type of decision yourself if you are able to understand the implications of your decision and there are no serious risks to your health.
